Well, you just may have been under a rock if you haven't yet heard of the Kentucky Derby. Encompassing the glitz and glamour of a metropolitan city, this event is unlike any other horserace that you may be familiar with. Celebrities and the like have flocked to Louisville for the past several years to kick off spring’s premier event and get a small taste of the southern belle & gent experience that is affectionately known as “The Derby." Some of 2010’s notable guest included Tischina Arnold, Gabrielle Union, Mario Lopez, Terrell Owens, Fran Drescher, Nora Roberts, Ray Lewis, Bo eDreck, Taylor Dayne, Ashlee Simpson, and Rebecca Romijn among others.
Fashion, Style and down right Fabulousity: Urban Fashionista’s and Southern Belle’s alike come prepared with their fashion A-Game. Your likely to see silhouette hugging pencil dresses, floral printed blouse, ruffles, flowy fabrics, and statement hats… think Dynasty circa 1985. PoshFashionista’s Fashion Tip: Dress as if your going to the most chic church in town and Beyonce is the Deaconess.
The Venue: This weekend promises to be memorable as the temperature will be a warm 69 degrees at Churchill Downs, if your lucky to get there after the morning rain on Friday and before the afternoon rain on Saturday. Keep in mind that this is not your normal weekend in Louisville, the normally charming southern town has gotten a fabulosity over hall. The locals recommend the following: 1) Participate in Friday’s running of the Oaks is steeped in history, tradition and is as old as the Kentucky Derby. Known as “Louisville’s Day at the Races” you’ll revel in the pomp and circumstance of the Oaks, but with a slightly smaller crowd that still dresses to the nines. So make sure to enjoy the official pink drink of the day – The Lilly. 2) On Derby Day, arrive at the track early to enjoy the sights, sounds and spectacular hats! Then, place your bets, sip your Mint Juleps, and watch the most exciting two minutes in sports! (by way of http://www.gotolouisville.com/play/tours-itineraries/derby-week/index.aspx). The Deets: General Admission to the Derby$40, Increase your chances of star gazing by partying with a purpose (aka fundraiser events) Taste of Derby premier event ticket will run you $275. If your feeling like a BOSS, you may want to sip the exclusively priced $1,000 Mint Julip (pictured to the right). Its by far the most expensive cocktail on the track.
As you can see, this weekend guarantees to bring fabulous flair to an otherwise quiet town.
The Good News: You will be mixing & mingling with Celebrities and High Rollers.
The Band News: There’s not much else to do in Louisville outside of the Derby Events.
Until we meet again… Be Posh ♥!
